Lunch & Learn – The News You Choose
The News You Choose: The Changing Media Landscape
Where are you getting your news? For some, it is traditional network news or a daily newspaper. For Gen Z, it’s TikTok influencers and YouTube.
The business of news is changing every day, from network consolidation to the disappearance of local outlets to defunding public media organizations. The result: We may be more at the mercy of the ever-changing algorithm than we know.
A free press is critical to a functioning democracy, and every day the fourth estate is being weakened. The loss of local newspapers has led to decreased civic engagement, and misinformation spreads across social media platforms, blurring the lines between journalism and entertainment.
What can we as citizens do to be better informed?
Join us at our Lunch & Learn to hear from local journalists in the thick of the action and academics studying the issue about how our media landscape is changing and what we must do to make sure we have access to accurate information when it matters most.
